Houston is home to the major Roasting and Soluble coffee plants in the United States. The city is completely open to international trade, for the Port of Houston is the first port in the U.S. in foreign tonnage, second in total tonnage, and 10th worldwide in total tonnage.

Houston's designation as a green coffee exchange port provides a flavorful blend of business incentives, enterprising opportunities and economic enhancements. Folgers, Maxwell Coffee House, Starbucks, and other traders are directly or indirectly involved in the coffee industry; all have a big impact on the Houston coffee market.

Many African, Latin American, Asian and European countries have been visiting the Port of Houston as well as elected officials from the city of Houston for the only purpose of generating trade between the city of Houston and those countries.

Houston has developed a reputation as a business friendly port. When given a choice of U.S. ports, international traders choose the Port of Houston more often than any other port. That’s why the Port of Houston remains the nation’s largest port in terms of foreign tonnage. No other U.S. port has a better relationship with Latin American countries. They are also the major coffee growing nations of the world.
